The standard of education in the country is deteriorating, hence, there is the need to revive academic excellence in schools and other educational institutions.

The Coordinator of Project Raise, an initiative of Visible Impact Limited, Miss Bunmi Ajagbe, said this on Thursday during a visit to the Tribune House, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Agbaje, accompanied by the Project Assistant, Mr. Jare Aderounmu and the Media Consultant of the company, Mr. Muyiwa Ojo, said the project, in partnership with the Oyo State government, was aimed at combating mediocrity in students in the state.

The state governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, is expected to flag off the initiative on December 10 and launch a book entitled: “Laws of Academic Excellence,” which would be distributed to students.

While extolling the virtues of the founder of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc., pulishers of the Tribune, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, she said the sage was interested in education and that was why many benefitted from his free education initiative.

The project, according to the coordinator, was aimed to commence with students of Senior Secondary School II in public schools in the state, because they were amenable to changes and matured enough to deliver results before writing their final examinations.

Miss Ajagbe implored teachers in the state to live up to their callings and build a legacy for themselves in raising the students, adding that “when there is no great teacher, there is no great citizen, then no great leader.”

The vision of the project, she said, was for Nigeria to become centre of academic excellence by 2031.

Responding, the Editor, Sunday Tribune, Mr. Edward Dickson, who represented the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, ANN Plc., Mr. Segun Olatunji, commended the initiative of the organisation, promising that the Tribune would be willing to partner with them.

He implored the organisation to create awareness for the public, especially the younger generation, to be enlightened on the project as the Tribune titles were being repackaged for that purpose.
